Among the hundreds
of short instrumental films released by Hollywood, “A Song is
Born” is the only to introduce a hit. With Larry Clinton’s
band behind her, Bea Wain sang this song that had been kicking around
the Paramount Pictures music department for about a month before it was
selected for the short subject (according to Carmichael). This song is
the result of the composer’s and lyricist’s first collaboration.
Two other songs with the same title appeared in 1983 and 1987.
