Tea for Two 1925
Vincent Youmans (m) Irving Caesar (w)
From the show “No, No, Nanette”

Tea For Two Cover

A great example of using a near palindrome in a title to catch the audience's attention: “Tea for two and two for tea, and me for you and you for me.” Another example is “If I’m not near the girl I love I love the girl I’m near.”
Lyricist Irving Caesar told the story that composer Vincent Youmans asked him for some lyrics to a new tune, but they were due at a party and Caesar came up with some “dummy” lyrics. When they returned to the work, those dummy lyrics were kept.
